Summer is almost here! There is nothing better than guacamole during summertime. You can eat it as an entrée, as a snack, in a salad or as a side.
The Best Guacamole Recipe
You just need a couple ingredients to make this recipe:
- 2 ripe avocados, pulled, pitted and mashed (I prefer when using a fork for the mashing part);
- 1 big tomato (or 2 smaller) diced;
- Green onion (1 or 2 stems) chopped;
- 1 lime, juiced (this lemon/lime squeezer is my favorite);
- Salt flower (as much as you like);
Optional: You can add finely chopped fresh basil or kale for a vitamin and tasteful addition.
You can use this simple trick to know if an avocado is fresh and ripe or rotten from Northwest Edible Life website. Always useful when you are at the supermarket and hesitate on which avocado to buy.
The Ultimate Freshness Trick
If you are not eating your guacamole immediately or if you think it will stay on the table for quite some time, just add the avocado’s pits into the bowl. It will lengthen the freshness of your guacamole so it won’t turn brownish too fast.
You can use the same trick it you only use ne half of an avocado and put the other half in the fridge. Leave the pit into the half you do not eat immediately. It will stay fresh longer. Some people will say it is a myth, but I tried it and it really work better than other tricks.
You can also paint this last half with olive oil to prevent oxydation. There are lots of tricks out there, so you better see by yourself what works for you.
Many Usages of Guacamole
I put guacamole everywhere:
- in salad;
- with eggs;
- on toasts;
- in my healthy nachos;
- with tortillas;
- in tacos, fajitas etc.
Guacamole is delicious all year round but when it is summertime it seems like it is even better!
